I create mixed media sculptures out of found objects, upcycled trash and living plants. They often take the shape of chimeric creatures inspired by ancient Minoan and Egyptian ceramics. Much of my art is made to be used.
My process is simple: I wander and find the objects where ever I go, sometimes holding on to them for years. When inspiration strikes, I decapitate or dismember something, and then RE-capitate and RE-member* it by combining it with other elements.
Recent works have also focused on my experience of infertility treatments and IVF. These are a bit less whimsical and a bit more visceral, but the creative process, for me, is no less joyous.
I make these sculptures because I enjoy them, and I hope you will as well. This world can be brutal, we have to claim and nurture the ways that wildness and whimsy can peer out at you from your wall, your soap dish, your medicine cabinet.
*In Healing Rage, Ruth King gives a beautiful retelling of the Isis and Osiris story to link the processes of ‘re-memberment’ to trauma healing, I recommend checking it out.
